Paul Bain

Paul William Bain LLP is a Partner in SB&P

My job is all about people. I like to see, feel and breathe my clients’ motivations and aspirations.
By understanding where they want to get to and by focussing on delivering real advice and developing real relationships, I quickly become part of my client’s core business team.

My clients are great at what they do, and it is my role to bring different skills and expertise to the table to support them to achieve their ambitions. This means that my clients know that they can ask me anything. If they have a problem, or if they just want a meeting to talk things through, they know that they can call me at any time.

Part of my role is to keep my clients 100% compliant. Giving them peace of mind by taking the stress of compliance away and making sure that they are fulfilling all of their responsibilities, means that they can focus all their efforts on what they do best. While I concentrate on accounts, including management accounts, financial statements and income extraction, a large part of my role is to also act as a sounding board. I work with my clients on a wide range of business issues, from hiring new staff to calculating pension contributions – essentially anything that affects them or their business.

A bit about my background
I have been at SB&P for over 40 years where my focus has always been on owner managed businesses. I joined the partnership team in 2018 and I now support all my clients with their day to day issues as well as producing management and annual accounts.

What is the most daring thing you’ve ever done?
I flew in a 4-seater plane across the United States. It was nerve wracking, but the views were extraordinary.

If you could have dinner with anyone, who would it be?
It would have to be Pele. I love football and I think he was the most outstanding footballer of all time. I would love to ask him how he felt when Gordon Banks made that famous save!

If you could have any superpower, what would it be?
Well, I know that you can’t turn the clock back, but a superpower that we already have is being able to look back and learn from your mistakes. You can have a dramatic impact on your own life and the lives of others by reflecting back and using that knowledge to do things differently. That is real power.
