Michelle Maloney

Assistant Manager | Accounts and Audit

I work with a broad range of clients, from sole traders to limited companies. My role involves making sure our clients are provided with a good quality service, that always goes above and beyond. The services that I am involved in include preparation of statutory accounts, audit services, general bookkeeping, management accounts and preparation and submission of VAT returns.

I like to understand the needs of my clients and the sectors in which they operate. Having a sound knowledge of individual businesses helps me to advise when it comes to assisting clients to achieve their long-term goals.

One of the sectors I particularly enjoy working with are charities and not-for-profit organisations.

At SB&P we provide services including independent examinations, preparation of charitable accounts and carrying out statutory audits. We also provide general bookkeeping services and advice to trustees and directors. Working with the not-for-profit sector gives me the diversity I so enjoy, but it has also given me a real appreciation of how much reliance is placed on fundraising. This has inspired me to organise regular charity events, which the team at SB&P have thoroughly enjoyed and participated in. The charity events have made a positive impact on the team as we are all working together for a good cause, and helping others inevitably makes you feel good.

I started working for an independent accountancy practice back in 2002 at the age of 16. I completed my Business Administration qualifications and quickly came to realise that finance is at the heart of every business, and the demand for accounting and finance skills would never go away.  Armed with that thought, I embarked on the next stage of my journey and enrolled to start my AAT qualification, safe in the knowledge that it would equip me with the required experience, knowledge, and skills to help me build an exciting career in virtually any industry.

I qualified in 2006 and have since amassed over 15 years of valuable experience, across a broad and varied range of clients and services. I find it hugely rewarding that I am now able to share my own experiences, knowledge, and skills with the team I work with today.

What is the most daring thing you’ve ever done?
When I was 21, I travelled to Isla Margarita which is a small Island off the coast of Venezuela. Whilst there, I camped at Canaima National Park where Angel Falls is located, and held a baby crocodile. Fun fact… Disney’s UP movie Paradise Falls is located at Angel Falls, also known as Tabletop Mountain as it has a flat surface.

What is the most exciting thing on your bucket list?
I would love to travel to Iceland and swim with the Orcas, however, I need someone brave enough to come with me!

What one piece of advice would you give your 10-year-old self?
I have multiple, but my main piece of advice would be to never give up and never settle for second best. If you want something badly enough, keep working hard and success will eventually come your way.

Who inspires you?
My children inspire me! They are the reason that I work hard, to give them the best possible future and be a good role model to them.
